Sevastopol to develop its own microchips as import substitution

In Sevastopol, a joint project between Technopark IT Crimea, SevSU, and ITGlobal.com IT Garage will work on creating a range of widely used microchips to replace imported products.

The investment volume in the development will be 200 million rubles in the first two years. There are plans to increase investments and support the project for four to five years. Experts predict that the market size for microchips across various applications will reach 300 billion rubles.

“The establishment of mass production, specifically building a dedicated factory, is beyond our expertise. It is a time-consuming and expensive project. Russia lacks the necessary technological manufacturing facilities, so the silicon processor will be made in China”, explained Dmitry Gachko, founder of Technopark.

The company plans to begin mass-producing its own chips in 2026, with an expected capacity of 100,000 units per year. Once production starts, these microchips will be accessible to the general market. Technopark experts believe that these products could potentially substitute NVIDIA Jetson, StarFive, and Huawei KIRIN chips. These devices have applications in various industries such as automotive, electronics, drone flight controller development, and other areas.
